WHY IT’S RAD!
The first production convertible pickup since the Model A.
It may have taken close to 60 years for a manufacturer to produce another topless pick up truck and we suspect the mini-truck craze of the 80s was likely the catalyst. Flip through any 80’s or early 90’s automotive magazine and you’ll come across multiple companies offering to cut a hole in your roof or remove it entirely. And seemingly no other company was as prolific than the American Sunroof Corporation (ASC). The Celica Convertible, 1983 Mustang Convertible, C4 Corvette and even 944’s (through ASC’s German subsidiary) were made by the “go-to” top chopper. And you guessed it, they also created this RADwood Royalty-worthy machine, the Dodge Dakota Sport.
The 1989 Dodge Dakota Sport convertible presented here is 1 of 3000 units produced between 1989-1991 and has #RADwoodCred as it was shown on the lawn of RADwood SoCal back in 2019. The truck was acquired by the seller 4 years ago in Maryland and took it with him on a move to California, where the truck resides today. The truck is said to have always been garaged under the current ownership and was not used during the winter months while in the East Coast.
The Dakota presents well, although it does have miscellaneous dings and scratches throughout, which are highlighted in the photo gallery. The steering wheel and steering column exhibit wear, while the dashboard is mostly crack-free and the seats appear to be in excellent condition with no stains or tears. This example is also equipped with A/C which the seller states is uncommon. A/C blows “cold as ice” and heat blows…hot.
Wheels are period correct 16” 3-piece Impul RS with 2” spacers. Tires are Kelly Edge A/S with early 2019 date codes and the original wheels are included in the sale. The truck rides on Belltech 2” front/ 4” rear lowering springs. The exterior is spruced up with a super period, urethane “ground effects kit” and the exterior mods are rounded out with a TruXport cargo cover.
The seller states the previous owner performed all of his own maintenance, so records are sparse, however the seller had the brakes, tires & alignment done last year after the suspension install April 2018. A tuneup including oil change, air filter, wires, and spark plugs was performed March 2020.
Included in the sale are the original owner’s manuals/booklets and 2 keys.
