WHY IT’S RAD!
Two words: Ski poles. The Subaru Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter, better known as the BRAT, fills a unique place in mini-truck lore. Not only is it compact and rugged, it featured standard four-wheel drive and those legendary rear-facing truck bed mounted seats with “ski pole” grips. Talk about making an entrance at the next RADwood. All BRAT’s are becoming quite rare, especially these first generation round headlight examples.
The seller acquired the car one year ago from the original California owner where it had been in storage since 1993. It came complete with extensive records including the dealer window sticker and the odometer shows 109k miles which records validate.
Described as a preserved driver condition BRAT, this Subaru is complete and mainly original. The seller has been driving the truck regularly and it has recently passed California smog inspection without issue.
Factory paint and trim shows several dings, dents and other wear. The seller states there are areas of rust at the mounting point of the rear-facing seats and surface rust is shown in under car and engine bay photos. The turquoise interior presents well and is mainly original and preserved with splits on the drivers seat vinyl. Factory AM/FM stereo and analog Citizen clock remain.
The Subaru EA81 flat four runs well and has had a recent oil service. The 4-speed transmission and transfer case are in working order and the A/C is functional.
This 1981 Subaru BRAT is offered without reserve.
