WHY IT’S RAD!
The second generation Mazda MX-5 Miata was introduced as a ’99 model in 1998. Those in the know, will note this was 10 years after the introduction of the iconic first generation “NA” model, which brought the sporty roadster back into the automotive mainstream after the British roadster industry had gone largely dormant. It is well known that the original Miata was heavily inspired by the Lotus Elan—FR layout, twin cam engine, pop up headlights, fully independent suspension, and light weight.
The second gen “NB” Miata continued on this theme albeit with a bit more comfort in mind. There are less hard plastic surfaces in the interior and the experience is a bit more insulated, while still maintaining that go kart-like connectedness Miata’s are known for. The NB’s soft top even came with a glass rear window and defroster(!). The 10th Anniversary Edition like the one presented here, complements that “luxury” with both performance and aesthetic upgrades over the standard models.
1 of 3000 US models (the global run of 10th Anniversary Editions was 7,500), this example is #1932 and has traveled 89,390 miles since it was first sold in New York. The current owner and seller acquired the car in April of 2017 and has driven it approximately 16,000 miles since then.
The 10th Anniversary Edition “package” includes:
- 6-speed manual transmission
- Torsen limited slip differential
- Bilstein shocks
- Front strut brace
- 15” polished wheels
- Bose stereo system
- Saphire Blue Mica paint
- Two-tone black and blue interior with Alcantara inserts and matching steering wheel
Additional modifications are said to be limited to a roll bar (believed to be a Hard Dog M20), Racing Beat air intake, Racing Beat header & race connecting pipe, and Poke Ball shifter.
Recent services include throttle body and MAF sensor cleaning and battery replacement in January 2021. Accessory belts and brake/clutch fluid flush were performed March 2021.
Both 02 sensors were replaced in April of 2019.
A receipt is included for a $560 interior/exterior detail performed April 2021. The front bumper shows damage which the owner states he touched up. The CARFAX report does show two “minor incidents” resulting in damage to the rear of the vehicle in 2010 and another to the front of the vehicle in 2017.
The CEL is illuminated and the fog lights are not functional. The CEL is said to be due to the front O2 sensor not being screwed into the aftermarket downpipe, as there isn’t a bung present for it. The seller is including a spare set of fog lights.
The car is being sold with a clean Illinois title, sporadic service records, 2 original keys, and original owners manuals. Michelin XIce winter tires mounted on Honda Civic wheels come with the car as well.
This is a sought after NB Miata package and the small imperfections make it an excellent “light resto” candidate or just enjoy it as is for guilt-free motoring.
Good luck and happy bidding!
