WHY IT’S RAD!
As underdog stories go, the Geo Metro Convertible is a good example. I mean, just look at it. It’s hard not to root for this little guy- with it’s 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter engine and it’s bright blue paint and splashy graphics. Manual transmission? Check. Manual windows and locks, too. And a manual soft top? You bet. Makes you want to just hop in, fire up a rad CD and cruise around aimlessly. The sense of occasion is high on this one and how many have even survived the past 30 years?
This Geo was very recently purchased by the seller and previously spent time in Iowa and Texas before moving to California where it has remained since 2002. The 5-digit odometer shows just over 30k miles but it is believed to have rolled over and CARFAX records indicate true mileage is likely 130k.
This Metro is finished in Competition Blue with grey cloth and vinyl interior trimmed in matching blue “piping.” A drivers side airbag was standard as were manual windows and locks. The A/C does not blow cold but the heater works well and the Pioneer CD player accounts for the only modification.
The car presents as a preserved example and some wear consistent with age is noted. Blemishes include some visible damage to the left front fender, a ding on the left rear side and various minor scrapes and chips to paint, including both front and rear bumpers. The period correct factory vinyl graphics show well in photos and the luggage rack and soft top are in good condition. The 13” wheels wear the original Geo hubcaps and are shod in newer Kumho Solus tires.
The seller reports this Metro starts, runs and drives great. “Power” is provided by the aforementioned 3-cylinder and delivered to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The drivers side CV boot is torn and a replacement CV axle and boot is provided. The engine bay appears tidy and factory correct and has an Interstate battery installed in 2019. While output may be lacking (55 hp, 58 lb/ft of torque), it’s the exceptional fuel economy (nearly 50mpg) and ultra light curb weight (1750 lbs) that will steer the conversation at RADwood.
While this Geo is a captive import- essentially a rebadged, Japanese built Suzuki Swift; that didn’t prevent one from winning Raddest Domestic at RADwood Nor Cal in 2019. This 1992 Geo Metro LSi convertible is offered here at NO RESERVE and includes a clean California title, current smog, some records and original manuals.
