It’s difficult to find an F-body today that hasn’t been used to replicate scenes from “Smokey and the Bandit” but this time capsule puts us back to the showroom in 1988 - almost literally. This 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA was dealer owned until 2018, when it was then first titled. It’s been owned, maintained, and serviced by Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet in North Carolina and the odometer shows just 19,006 original miles.

The GTA (or Gran Turismo Americano) package was offered as the flagship Trans Am trim, offering the 350ci 5.7L V8 (215 hp/285 lb.ft.) and luxury features, making it the “ultimate” 3rd generation F-body. The standard suspension for the GTA was the WS6 Level III Performance Suspension, which includes 4-wheel disc brakes and limited slip differential. The GTA also sported unique GTA badging and body aero, previously only available as options to the Trans Am.

The 5.7L V8 is mated to an automatic transmission, which was the only option available for the larger 350ci powerplant. All 215 horsepower reach the pavement through a limited slip differential and BF Goodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2 which appear in excellent condition sporting a 2021 date code. The gold, diamond-spoke aluminum wheels also appear pristine.

This American pony car does not appear to have any issues and the seller states both exterior and interior are in excellent condition. The Flame Red Metallic paint appears in bright, clean condition. One more rare option includes the “Ventura” leather interior, which also shows to be nearly perfect. The carpets and floor mats appear in showroom condition.

The seller reports the A/C compressor and exhaust system were replaced, as well as fluids, brake service, belts, and wear items. Seller states the car needs nothing and runs excellent.

This T/A has no modifications, making it exceptionally rare. All electrical items in the car are said to be in perfect working order. Window sticker, build sheet, sales brochures, and manuals are all included with the sale.

If you’re looking for some Americana to hold onto, this may be a good bet. The clean CARFAX report substantiates the claims of being a low mileage, original car and this incredibly preserved 3rd generation GM F-body is now ready to find a new owner.
