The Jeep Wrangler is clearly an American icon and an important part of the RADwood Era. It’s easy to think these Jeep’s were just the next iteration of the CJ-7, but this was an all new model that debuted in the latter part of the 1980’s and were significantly better than their legendary forbearers. Whether you are crawling Moab trails or the mall parking lot, these simple and utilitarian rigs have a strong following and continue to be appreciated for their “do anything” persona. While the VW Cabriolet gets a lot of love for being the de facto convertible of the era, these Jeeps should be highly considered as a fun and approachable alternative. The bucket to the VW’s basket.

This first generation YJ Jeep Wrangler ‘S’ was bought new from Towbin Jeep-Eagle of Las Vegas before being moved to a remote part of the Arizona desert where it was garaged and driven sparingly. The seller inherited the Jeep recently and it is now located back in Las Vegas.

Finished in Radiant Fire red over grey vinyl and cloth, this Wrangler remains mostly original and has covered only 38k miles from new. The 2.4 liter 4-cylinder is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and features "shift on the fly" Command Trac 4x4 system. The Jeep was offered with only a handful of options which included rear bumperettes, floor carpet, alloy wheels, a right side mirror, power steering, reclining front seats and a folding rear seat- all of which are found here. The doors can be removed but are the minimal “half metal doors” which add to the airy feel.

The interior shows very well and the vinyl, door cards, dash and trim all appear in great condition. The dash lights are still incredibly bright and all gauges function. The factory sport steering wheel and shift levers show little wear.

The exterior also appears to be in excellent condition with the occasional rock chip and two single door dings on the passenger side door (shown in pictures) as the Jeep was always stored indoors. The seller notes years of wax buildup in some of the body panel seams.

Overall this Jeep appears largely original but does have a front bumper mounted aftermarket winch, a replacement Best Top soft top, Best Top cargo hold and a Kenwood bluetooth stereo. Later 15” Jeep wheels are fitted with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires all around. A matching spare wheel and tire are mounted to the rear carrier as well.

This YJ Wrangler runs, starts and shifts without issue and recent maintenance includes cooling system update with a new radiator and hoses. It’s had a recent oil service and the vehicle comes with records from the past few years, original window sticker and a clean CARFAX report.

With a strong enthusiast community and thorough aftermarket support, these Jeep’s will remain a quality representative of the RADwood Era for many years to come.
