Presented here in the Royalty section is a 1985 Plymouth Colt GTS Turbo 5spd in bronze metallic over burgundy and gray interior. While base models were propelled by a 68hp carbureted  four cylinder engine, this GTS Turbo with approximately 146k miles is powered by the 4G32TB 1.6L fuel injected Turbo engine making 102 bhp and weighs in at ~2200 lbs. The car comes in GTS Turbo Trim including rear spoilers, “Turbo” scripted steering wheel, and front lower valance. The car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes, sports cluster with tach and turbo gauge, manual steering and no A/C.

The Colt was praised by and referred to as a “tiny Sumo Rocket” by John Davis in his Motorweek Review:

1985 Dodge Colt Turbo on Motorweek

During ownership, the second owner engaged in a significant aesthetic and mechanical refresh of the car including:

  • Exterior paint respray in original color-matched color
  • New period correct upholstery in original colorway, taking some liberties with the door card fabric. Driver seat was repadded to add more lumbar support.
  • Engine overhaul by a Mitsubishi dealer! @ 120k miles (documented) $2,200 in 1998
  • New clutch @ 122k miles (documented) in 1999
  • New radiator @ 131k miles (documented) in 2004

The car was also regularly maintained as per service records and the Carfax.

The third (current) owner bought the car in July 2019. At the time it was stored in a climate controlled garage in Sierra Vista, AZ by the second owner, (80 year old Jack who claimed, “It still rips!”) and was transported back to the San Francisco Bay Area where it is currently located.

During current ownership, the car has received a timing belt, brake, and fluids service @ 144k miles, an upgraded single DIN Alpine slide out CarPlay compatible stereo, an oem replacement ECU (used), new old stock oem antenna, and new silver Enkei 92 wheels on BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2 tires. Various additional parts and original service manuals are supplied with the car, as well as period advertising materials. The car holds a current valid CA registration, clear title in the seller’s name and a clean CarFax showing a history of regular service. The car will be smogged prior to sale for CA residents.

The Colt is a veteran of 700 mile  DWA Sierra Rally (2019) and presents very well and is in good running and driving shape. It attracts attention wherever it goes and is the epitome of 80s hot hatch goodness.
