WHY IT’S RAD!
“Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham...creating a higher standard of uncompromised strength and substance in a full size luxury automobile. Elegance, distinction and power.” That is how Cadillac described their last Fleetwood of the RADwood Era (and, well, probably ever) in this perfect promotional video. And who can argue with that? Well, several people may argue BUT these full size luxury sedans, built for full size Americans, do have a presence that is difficult to describe. So, let’s just use elegance, distinction and power.
The 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham was the last ever body-on-frame rear-wheel drive Cadillac sedan and combined with the low-for-GM-production-numbers of just around 10,000 units, it has now become a sought after collectible. The wafty, cushy ride can’t be replicated by any other car of the era and together with the popular 5.7-liter LT1 V8 engine, it’s actually pretty quick and delivers surprising fuel economy, regularly getting up to 26 hwy mpg. This Caddy is capable of towing, has seats for 6 and is longer than the same year Chevy Suburban. It’s hard to believe these cars even existed in the mid-90s.
This example is described as a “cosmetically challenged,” well maintained, rust free, daily driver. It’s finished in black over black leather with factory alloy wheels and a black landau roof. Standard equipment includes cruise control, power locks, power adjustable front seats, SRS, ABS and traction control. The A/C blows cold and the heater works well. The digital odometer shows 167k miles.
This 3-owner Fleetwood has been with the seller for 19 years and 134k miles. It’s been thoroughly maintained over the years and recent service covers an oil change and all other maintenance (transmission fluid, differential oil, coolant, spark plugs, brake fluid, tire rotation, etc) is up-to-date. The correct whitewall tires fitted are less than 2 years old.
Blemishes include worn paint and failing clearcoat in places, dings and other wear as seen in the detailed photo gallery. The interior is complete but the leather shows wear on the driver's seat and the seller notes the rear power windows are disconnected to prevent common regulator failure. Otherwise the interior is in good shape and features a SiriusXM satellite radio which accounts for the only modification.
This would be the perfect Fleetwood for someone who wants to truly experience the last body-on-frame RWD Cadillac sedan without having to spend a fortune on a collector-grade example. The car comes with a clean title, accident free CARFAX, current California smog check and could be daily driven as-is or would be an excellent candidate for a cosmetic refresh.
