WHY IT’S RAD!
The GTV6 has historically been an oddly underappreciated example of the RADwood Era. It really makes no sense. It’s produced by an iconic Italian manufacturer in Alfa Romeo, it was penned by one of the all time greats in Giugiaro, and it was a motorsport success in period. It is only recently that values of these Alfa’s are on an upward trajectory. Especially for low mileage examples finished in rare colors, as seen here.
This 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 is finished in Bleu Posillipo (color code AR396) which is believed to be one of 36 examples to wear this attractive dark blue. The light brown camel leather shows well and compliments the exterior color quite nicely. The odometer shows just 30,932 miles from new.
This Alfa is being sold by the Vice President of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club of Southern California. It was purchased in 2017 (with 25k miles) from the original owner, also in Southern California, where it was well cared for and the seller reports there are no dings, rust, corrosion or any sign of accidents present. Since then a “sympathetic restoration” has been carried out to cover any age related wear items and mechanical needs over a 2.5 year period. The hood, roof and rear hatch were repainted due to clear coat peeling, otherwise the paint and body is believed to be original.
Mechanically, the work done is extensive starting with a complete service including timing belt, tensioner, water pump, radiator hoses, fuel hoses, and the air conditioner pulley. At time of replacement, all fluids were renewed including; engine oil, gearbox oil, differential oil, and brake fluid.
Further mechanical service includes new compressor belt, engine mounts, gearbox mount, fuel filter, fuel line, injector hoses and a new clutch master cylinder fitted. A new air idle adjuster fitted to Bosch fuel injection is present as well as a replacement rotor cap, new battery and more. The A/C compressor was rebuilt to retain the factory look and works well.
The Alfa wears 5 new VR-rated tires that have been mounted and balanced on freshly restored and powder coated factory wheels with new center caps. Replacement calipers and brake hoses at rear inboard disc brakes have been installed and the ride height has been adjusted to Italian specification. A recent oil service and full detail was just completed.
All gauges and accessories work well and have benefitted from restoration of the tachometer, installation of a new factory clock and all lights and fuses are operational. The factory tape deck is paired to correct replacement speakers. The stereo works but the cassette player is non-operational. The car features a 150mph speedometer, 6700 rpm tachometer, manual sunroof, factory tool set and some records. Modifications are limited to the aftermarket (and removable) fog lights.
This Alfa is said to drive very well, the 5-speed standard transmission shifts crisply and the 2.5 liter V6 revs smoothly. The combination of rare and attractive colors, very low original mileage and up to date mechanical condition places this example in a very small group of GTV6’s and it is now “turn key ready” for the next owner.
