1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts Ed.

The end of an era; It’s a common theme when discussing all things RADwood. The last air-cooled 911, the last mini truck or the last real Supra. Which brings us to the listing of this 1984 Yamaha RZ350 “Kenny Roberts” edition; the last street-legal 2-stroke motorcycle sold in the US.

While it was the last of its kind, the RZ350 also represents several “firsts.” The aforementioned Roberts was the first American motorcycle grand prix champion and was honored with this special edition. Details include his signature on the headlight fairing with the iconic Yamaha “speed block” yellow and black livery. In order to sell this 2-stroke pocket rocket in the States, Yamaha implemented the first use of a catalytic converter on any motorcycle.

Roberts is remembered for his revolutionary (and now commonly accepted) style of riding, with his entire body hanging off the bike and scraping a knee, and this listing offers the next owner the chance to relive and experience this by-gone era of punchy, lightweight and analog machines.

This Yamaha is largely original and shows 8,399 miles on the odometer. Early ownership history is not well documented, but it’s believed to have spent most of its life in New Jersey and still wears a 1987 N.J. Inspection sticker on the front fork.

Since being acquired in May 2020 from a collector in Lancaster, PA, the selling dealer immediately performed an extensive service totaling $1837; addressing carburetors, brake master cylinder, fuel tank and more. Tires show signs of age and can be used for transport and display, but should be replaced before further use.

Overall the bike is fully functional and well preserved, with paint believed to be original. There are a few very small chips in paint and some wear on graphics shown in photos. This RZ350 still retains the factory exhaust, warning decals and rubber chain guard extension as well as the “two-up” tail piece which covers the passenger portion of the seat.
