1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Commemorative Edition

Sold for: $52000
Total Bids: 9

What really makes a RAD 911? Is it a convertible top? Or is it rare and interesting colors? Or maybe a special edition? The answer for this particular 911 is “all of the above.” Finished in Diamond Blue Metallic paint over Silverblue Metallic interior with Ferry Porsche signatures on the front headrests, these Commemorative Edition cars were built to mark the completion of a quarter million 911’s built.

Sold new at Jack Daniels Porsche in New Jersey to a Ms. Barbara Gross, this 911 was still under her ownership in 1995 with 24,777 miles as indicated by a period service invoice. Judging from service invoices and Carfax, it appears Ms. Gross sold it to it’s second owner in Virginia in 1999 and a year later a service receipt shows 30,725 Miles. Next, it made its way to a North Carolina dealer where the last odometer record on a 2004 service receipt showed 36,917 Miles. The dealer then sold the car to its third owner in Canada.

Carfax shows no accidents but indicates a mileage discrepancy during Canadian ownership and is believed to be due to an error in mileage recording at service.

The current title in the selling dealers name has actual mileage believed to be correct at 56,053.

This car is one of 300 commemorative editions delivered to North America and one of approximately 100 cabriolets. Equipment includes the original 3.2 liter flat six mated to a G50 5-speed manual transmission. All of these special 911s were fitted with color matched 15” Fuchs wheels.

This example appears to be a very nice driver quality 911 with patina and some blemishes consistent with age and mileage. There are some minor stone chips on the hood and the front bumper has signs of paint touch-up. There's also a small dimple noted on the hood. Some peppering is present on the original windshield but not believed to be warranting replacement. Panel fitment and shut gaps are all factory correct. Carpets show minor wear, dash is in very good condition and gauges are all functional. Top fabric and boot cover both appear complete and unblemished condition and convertible top operates well.

This Carrera Cabriolet comes with the OEM air compressor, original spare tire, tool kit, jack, original window sticker, manuals, spare key, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and many records dating back to new. Approximately 25 pages of service records going back to the first owner along with service stamps in the manual accompany the car.

The seller reports this 911 runs and drives very well and has no known modifications except an aftermarket stereo and speakers. In May 2018, an extensive service totalling $6,779 was completed including clutch replacement, replacement of all fluids and hood struts, etc.
