WHY IT’S RAD!
If you’re a RADwood fan, you’ve gotta love captive imports like this Mitsubishi-Chrysler product. We’ve already seen one such vehicle sell on RAD For Sale, the obscure Plymouth Colt Turbo, and compared to that hot hatch, this highly modified Chrysler Conquest TSI is a bit more...radical.
The seller describes this example as a resto-mod with elements from different eras of Mitsubishi. The body features the wide fenders of a Starion Turbo (Conquest in all but name), painted in Athens Olive Green, a factory color originally found on ‘70s Galant GTO’s. The interior is the very ‘80s burgundy on burgundy with leather seats showing even wear. The ‘90s are represented under the hood by way of a DOHC 4G63 head, modified with a built 2.4L 4G64 block mated to a freshly rebuilt RX7 Turbo II S5 manual transmission. All together, this build represents what the Conquest/Starion likely should have been from the beginning.
Purchased in 2010, the seller has combined his 15 years of experience in RWD 4G63s, to complete this extensive and functional build. Prior ownership is unknown. The Autronic tuned 2.4L 4-cylinder makes 340hp and 276 ft/lbs of torque at 14psi with a Holset HX35 turbo. The seller claims all the supporting mods could allow for more power.
Handling is improved with a Nissan 240SX steering rack, coilover suspension and modified S14 knuckles. Increased steering angle can be taken advantage of with cleanly tubbed fenders. Larger Nissan 300ZX 4-piston brake calipers have been fitted under 245/45R16 tires mounted to 9" wide “Sport Handling Package” alloy wheels. The rear end features a larger 88/89 6-bolt LSD and freshly rebuilt half shafts. The engine was rebuilt in 2012 and the transmission was rebuilt last year. Paint work is from 2015.
The seller has provided a link to the full build sheet here.
Video featuring a walk around, driving on boost and cold start can be found here.
This Conquest starts smoothly, drives well and has a clean title. The odometer shows just 71k miles. The last oil service was done just before the sellers road trip to RADwood at New Jersey Motorsport Park in 2019.
