WHY IT’S RAD!
If you sit back and think about all the cop shows and films of the RADwood Era and what those films did with cars similar to this...it’s amazing any survived at all, and it’s a miracle any still look this good today. Luckily this 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis wouldn’t have been some pursuit scene casualty. No, this is no pedestrian Crown Vic. This full size sedan would have likely been the Police Commissioners car, with it’s opera lights, leather interior and landau top. The shining black paint, large chrome grille and no-nonsense design would have set the mood for that big conflict with the head villain at the end of the movie.
This is a one owner example of the final year of the first generation Grand Marquis which began in 1979. It was purchased new by the seller in June of 1990 and has always remained in Southern California. The odometer shows 31k miles but is not functioning.
It’s equipped with a 5.0 liter V8, 4-speed overdrive transmission and rear-wheel drive. The Mercury featured some more luxurious features such as a moonroof, cornering lights and full power leather seats, setting apart from the pursuit Crown Vics.
The massive trunk houses the original spare tire and is also complete with an unused factory wiring harness for towing. That’s correct, this Mercury sedan was capable of towing if needed.
The seller has maintained the car as needed and that work includes replacement of the oil pressure sender, spark plugs and wires and P/S pressure hose- all in 2021. In 2016 the radiator and water pump were replaced and further work before that includes alternator replacement, A/C compressor and more.
The black paint appears to be in very good condition with a few dings present in photos. The grey leather interior is complete aside from a small tear on the drivers bolster (also in photos) and the carpet has a small hole under the floor mat. The moonroof is functional, however the headliner is missing on the panel. The seller states the seal for the moonroof leaks at times and should be addressed. Passenger side power locks are non-operational (locks still operate manually) and there is a flashing airbag light on the dash. Newer Goodyear Integrity tires are fitted to factory alloys. The original stereo has been replaced with a Sony CD player with auxiliary input, accounting for the only modification from stock.
The seller reports this Mercury runs strong, drives very well and always garners compliments when out.
