WHY IT’S RAD!
The Range Rover Classic is legendary for its all-terrain conquering endeavors —the first vehicle to traverse the Americas north to south, two 4WD class Paris-Dakar Rally wins, and then there’s all the endless Camel Trophy imagery of these vehicles conquering the seemingly impossible. That being said, Land Rover designed the Range Rover “Classic” to be “a car for all occasions” and the sellers at Dutch Safari Co have taken this philosophy to the next level.
Originally a Spanish market vehicle, this 1985 2dr Range Rover, was imported for a client of the selling restoration shop/dealer in 2018.
A frame-off service was performed over the course of 2018 and 2019 which included a major overhaul of the Rover 3.5L V8. The engine was rebuilt by The Wedge Shop using their “upgraded horsepower and performance package” which included the following:
- Ported heads with big valves
- Heavy duty valve springs
- Performance cam
- High performance pistons
- Balanced engine assembly
- Heavy duty Cloyes double roller timing chain
- Reworked internals for better oil pressure
- Pushrod holes enlarged
- 4 barrel carburetor with tuned intake setup
New ignition leads, coil, and distributor were also added. The radiator and cooling system were upgraded to a 1995 Range Rover system.
In the spirit of making this “a car for all occasions,” air conditioning was retrofitted using a correct A/C dashboard. The 4 wheel disc brakes received new pads, rotors, and a fluid flush. New springs, shocks, and all rubber bushings have been replaced with new units.
The steering box is said to have been replaced along with a “modern” power steering fluid reservoir. The power steering pump was also rebuilt at this time.
The original 5 speed transmission was rebuilt with upgraded oil pump gears and the original transfer case was rebuilt with new shafts and bearings.
On the interior side of things, seats and center console received new leather to match the original. New carpeting was installed throughout, including the cargo area with matching cargo cover. All four door cards were replaced and new headliner was installed. All plastic is said to be in “good shape.” A new circuit board was also installed in the dash binnacle, ensuring all electrics are in working order.
A clean Texas title accompanies the vehicle as well as the invoices for the items detailed above.
