1985 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Turbo

Bid to: $7500
Total Bids: 5

Much has been written about the Mercedes W123 over the past 45 years and for good reason: it’s likely the most recognizable Mercedes the world has ever known. From taxis in Germany to family haulers in South Africa and comfortable cruisers in Australia, this unpretentious work horse is also considered to be another masterpiece by head Mercedes designer, Bruno Sacco. It’s no surprise, then, that the utilitarian S123 (wagon designation) with it's legendary 3.0 liter OM617 turbo diesel inline 5-cylinder, has gained a great deal of popularity lately. And although Mercedes produced over 2 million 123’s, it’s getting quite difficult to find tidy examples of them today. Especially rad station wagons like this 1985 300TD.

This Mercedes was purchased by the seller in February of 2020 from Blue Nelson, a well known Mercedes aficionado in Southern California and was inspected by W123 guru John Razzie. Prior ownership is said to include being the personal car of actress Dyan Cannon.

The wagon shows a few minor interior flaws consisting of 3 hairline dash cracks and a stain on the drivers floor mat. The body and paint present well but photos show a small area of surface rust on the top edge of the hatch as well as some clear coat peeling on the drivers door. The seller also notes there is a small dent on the hood.

While the odometer shows 230k miles, these diesel engines are known to go over a million miles with only standard maintenance and much of that has been performed recently. Details of service completed in the past few years includes replacement of the following:

Rear axles

SLS valve

SLS accumulators

Mono valve

Bilstein HD front shocks

Front brake rotors and pads

Engine mounts

Transmission mount

Engine shocks

Both lower ball joints

Both tie rods

Rear brake rotors and pads

R134a A/C

Further recent work includes 3M window tint, Ceramic Pro paint protection (installed by AutoWerks Detailing), Coco Mats and aftermarket stereo with bluetooth and mic.

The paint is believed to be Classic White over Palomino MB Tex interior and the wagon rides on 14” Bundt wheels. Equipped with a rear facing third row seat, this wagon can transport 7, and all rear seats fold down flat to create a very useful cargo bay. The seller reports this wagon starts, runs and drives very well and all accessories and features operate as they should.

We are very pleased to offer this 1985 Mercedes 300TD as a Royalty auction on RAD For Sale.
