WHY IT’S RAD!

Although BMW had been utilizing and relying on it’s horizontally opposed two-cylinder engines since their inception in 1923, it was clear something had to change as the RADwood Era was in full swing and the high tech 90’s fast approached. BMW started developing their next motorcycle powerplant in the late 80’s and it wasn’t introduced until the new R1100 in 1993. 

This ‘94 model offered here is equipped with this updated four-stroke, 1085cc, two-cylinder boxer engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission with a shaft final drive. While its cylinders are air cooled, the cylinder heads are oil cooled (AKA “oilhead”) and the bike is also equipped with anti-lock brakes. 

This is a classic BMW sport tourer with a more complete fairing that extends below the engine- something only offered between 1994-96. Cycle World awarded the R1100 as the best standard motorcycle of 1994.  

This BMW runs and drives well and has been recently maintained by the seller including a transmission replacement (upgraded to M97) with new clutch, tachometer and final drive in November 2020.

Modifications include aftermarket Aeroflow windshield and Sargent two piece seat. Luggage boxes are also included with 2 keys as is the original owner's manual, shop manual, and 3 keys. The seller also has a few spare parts including used replacement cylinder heads and a replacement rear brake signal lens included in the sale.

The working odometer shows 41k miles, although true mileage is unknown but is believed to be around 125k. The seller has the original odometer that stopped at 85880 when it was removed from the bike. The seller reports the bike runs and drives well with ABS fully operational. A scrape on the upper right side of the fairing and scrapes to the right outside of the engine can be seen in photos and wear is present on the handlebar ends.
